If you enjoy generous winter scarves but prefer something lighter the rest of the year, this collar offers an easy alternative. Îlot is a lightweight piece, tied at the front and simple to layer, with its name — meaning “islet” in French — nodding to the sailor collars that inspired the design. SIZES 1 (2) FINISHED MEASUREMENTS **Back Neck Width:** 6.5 (7.5)" / 16.5 (19.5) cm. **Back Width:** 12.5 (14.5)" / 32 (37) cm. **Front Ties Length (from back neck):** 12.5" / 31.5 cm. MATERIALS **Yarn:** 1 skein of Laine x Novita 4ply (70% Falkland wool, 15% Bluefaced Leicester wool, 15% Bluefaced Kerry Hill wool, 437 yds / 400 m – 100 g), in the colourway Silent Storm. Or approx. 175 (190) yds / 160 (175) m of fingering-weight yarn. Alternative yarn suggestions are for example Mondim by Retrosaria Rosa Pomar or Albertine by De Rerum Natura. The collar can also be knitted with DK-weight yarn, following the instructions for size 1. For this you would need approx. 105 yards / 95 m.  **Needles:** US 4 / 3 mm 16" / 40 cm circular needles. **Notions:** Removable stitch markers, cable needle. GAUGE 30 sts x 36 rows to 4" / 10 cm on US 4 / 3 mm needles in St St, after blocking. CONSTRUCTION The collar begins with a 2-st i-cord, from which the back neck stitches are picked up. Shoulder increases shape the back, which is then worked flat in Stockinette Stitch and finished with a decorative 1 x 1 twisted border and a folded hem to help it sit flat. Front ties are picked up from the shoulder edges and shaped with evenly spaced decreases.
