*Oat* is a tailored crew-neck sweater with a slightly cropped fit, set-in sleeves and an allover single basketweave stitch texture. It is finished with 1 x 1 rib on the collar, cuffs and hem to create a classic, timeless piece that is easy to dress up or down. The fabric is textured, cosy and comforting, just like a warm bowl of oatmeal on a chilly morning. Amy Baldwin sought to create a piece you’ll want to reach for again and again. With thoughtful tailoring and simple but engaging texture, you’ll find yourself wanting to knit “just one more row”. US 6 / 4 mm 16–32" / 40–80 cm circular needles for hem and collar, and DPNs or longer circular needles for small circumferences.  **Notions:** Stitch markers, stitch holders or waste yarn. GAUGE 22 sts x 29 rnds and rows to 4" / 10 cm on US 8 / 5 mm needles in Single Basketweave St, after blocking. 22 sts x 32 rnds to 4" / 10 cm on US 6 / 4 mm needles in 1 x 1 Rib, after blocking. NOTES This sweater is worked seamlessly from the top down, starting with the back. Stitches are cast on for the back, then short rows are worked to shape the back neck and shoulders. The back is worked flat with increases to shape the armholes, then placed on hold. Stitches are picked up for the left shoulder and short rows and increases are worked to shape the shoulder and neckline. The right shoulder is worked in the same way, then the front panels are joined with stitches cast on for the neck and knit to the same length and with the same armhole shaping as the back. The front and back are then joined together with stitches cast on for the underarms and worked in the round to the desired body length, then finished with a 1 x 1 Rib hem. Stitches are picked up for the sleeves, short rows are worked to shape the sleeve caps, then decreases are worked evenly throughout the sleeve before a long cuff in 1 x 1 Rib. Stitches are picked up around the neckline to work the collar in 1 x 1 Rib. All ribbing is finished with the Sewn Italian Bind-Off. When choosing a size, consider the upper bust measurement when knitting for a body with greater than a 3" / 7.5 cm difference between the full and upper bust measurements. This can help you choose a size that will achieve a tailored fit around the shoulders.
