The Chameleon Sweater is a versatile knitting pattern with a top-down construction, German short row shaping, contiguous set-in sleeves and elegant shoulder detail. This basic stockinette sweater features two options for the collar with either a mock neck or crew neck. Special attention is provided to the final fit of the garment at the shoulder, collar and armhole.
**Size Guide**
The Chameleon Sweater is designed to have approx. 4-14 cm [1½-5½"] of positive ease (4-14 cm [1½-5½"] larger than your bust circumference). Two lengths are proposed, a cropped and a regular version that sit about 8 cm [3¼"] and 16 cm [6¼"] past your natural waist respectively.
Before beginning your project, measure both your bust circumference and cross back width (shoulder tip to tip) to determine your size. It is also recommended to measure your upper arm circumference (the horizontal circumference at the fullest part of your upper arm) and choose a size where the upper sleeve circumference listed in the finished measurements is at least 2.5 cm [1"] larger. If you are between sizes for the upper arm, size up.
**Sizes**: 1 (2) 3 (4) 5 (6) 7 (8) 9 (10) 11 (12), for a finished bust circumference of 88 (92) 98 (102) 108 (114) 124 (134) 144 (154) 164 (174) cm [34¾ (36¼) 38½ (40¼) 42½ (45) 48¾ (52¾) 56¾ (60¾) 64½ (68½)"] and cross-back width of 36 (37) 37 (38) 39 (40) 41 (42) 43 (45) 46 (48) cm [14¼ (14½) 14½ (15) 15¼ (15¾) 16¼ (16½) 17 (17¾) 18 (19)"].
**Gauge**: 20 sts x 28 rows - 10 x 10 cm [4 x 4"] in stockinette stitch on 4 mm needles [US 6] blocked.
**Needles**: 4 mm [US 6] circular needles or the ones required to meet gauge.
3 mm [US 2/US 3] circular needles for the collar and hems, or a size down from the main needles.
**Notions**: 13 stitch markers (including 6 removable stitch markers), scrap yarn or additional cables, tapestry needle.
**Yarn**: DK
**Recommended Yarn**: Merry Merino 110, Kremke (50 g = 110 m / 120 yards)
Regular Length: 9 (9-10) 9-10 (10) 10-11 (11) 11-12 (12-13) 13-14 (13-14) 14-15 (15-16) skeins.
Cropped Length: 8 (8-9) 8-9 (9) 9-10 (9-10) 10 (10-11) 11-12 (12) 12-13 (13-14) skeins.
**Techniques**: Knitting in the round, *German short rows*, increases, decreases, placing stitches on hold, *picking up stitches (in sts)*, ribbing, Italian bind-off, wet blocking. Video support provided.
Testers were asked to evaluate the pattern complexity and the majority of testers voted for the pattern to be well-suited for Experienced Beginner to Intermediate knitters. (Detailed results: 6% Beginners, 35% Experienced Beginners, 35% Intermediate, 24% Experienced Intermediate, 0% Advanced)
Sample is knitted in Merry Merino 110 from Kremke in color 17.
FYI : Thanks to testers feedback the upper arm circumference as been increased and the construction improved (especially for sizes 7-12). Also the cropped version is now 2cm longer.
