A scarf or shawl can bring an outfit together and make you feel like you’ve made an effort in even jeans and a t-shirt. A good neutral shawl like this can become the cornerstone of an outfit and is an easy way to inject handmade into any occasion. Corner to Corner (C2C) is a blanket standard which creates a beautiful diagonal stripe. We’ve used it in this lovely shawl with a finer weight and a bigger hook to give more delicate drape and blocked aggressively to bring out the lacy beauty. Look for semi-solid or variegated yarns with similar colours in them to give you a subtle fade from one to the other. You won’t get anywhere near this tension while making. Ensure the fabric you are making is loose, drapey and will stretch. Measure tension across the width of the scarf rather than the width of the row (which is on the bias) so that you are measuring from side to side of each block rather than across the diagonal of it.
