Inspired by the sun-dappled Ironwood groves I walked through on the mountainside in Molokai, this extra long shawl captures the rhythmic dance of light through shifting leaves. Classic double crochet stitches paired with the linen stitch creates a soft, draping fabric that invites you to lose yourself in every row.
Extra texture is added with post stitches along the edge and although the pattern includes explicit instructions on my exact striping sequence, I invite you to have a play with color once you get the stitch pattern down and have fun with stripes and color blocking however you'd like!
The pattern includes a link to a video tutorial with time stamps in the description if you need further clarity on anything. And be sure to download the appendix files for a printable chart that you can follow along with instead, if you like. (There's a blank chart, too.)
This shawl was designed in collaboration with the dyer, and Ethan has designed an exquisite knit sister shawl pattern that uses the same three shades of green: [Nan-tathren Shawl][1].
STITCHES & TECHNIQUES:
• Single crochet
• Double crochet
• Front post double treble
• Decreases (defined in pattern)
GAUGE:
Rows 1–19 should measure approximately 4" (10 cm) long and 1.5" (4 cm) wide, unblocked.
Gauge is not critical; just make sure you like the feel of the fabric!
Be mindful of your desired length as you work and stop early if you get to the midpoint before I did. Pattern includes tips about making modifications.
Finished measurements of original sample after blocking were 15” (38 cm) deep at the center point and 111” (282 cm) long.
SUGGESTED MATERIALS:

o C1: Sprout (light green), 2 skeins
o C2: Peat (dark green), 1 skein
