Don't Panic

Don’t Panic is a generous semi-circular shawl designed as an MKAL. It has lots of mostly harmless lace, beads if you want them, and an ending that can go on and on and on. The design has five distinct parts to reflect the The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. To keep the element of surprise in the design, the pattern has been separated into these parts, however each requires more knitting than the last. *To those who purchased the pattern between March and the end of April, thank you for helping raise AUD $1825 for the amazing [ASRC][1]. Special thanks to those who gifted the pattern to others.* *Thanks to those who purchased during June-July and raised $43 for the [Malpa Young Doctors Program][2]. **Skill level** Intermediate/confident, see my project notes [here][3] for more detail. **Yarn** Suits lace to fingering. The design has several possible ending points, and the outer edging can be extended for many, many rows, so the shawl can use anywhere from 488m/533y to over 1000m/1100y. (Specifics available on my project page, linked above.) **Extension** The pattern includes a long edging designed to use up any remaining yarn. I’ve also added an extra chart which can be used as an extension if you still have lots of yarn left over at the end. *Alternatively, for anyone with a vast amount of yarn left, it’s possible to jump from row 146 of Don’t Panic to row 23 of [Draconis][4] and continue from there until you either finally run out of yarn or have made a lace cloak. :). * **Beads** As written, the pattern requires 34 beads per wedge, plus 5 at the starting side. The pictured sample shows 8 wedges (277 beads), though it’s possible to add more wedges, or more beads.
