I was then sure to add depth and squish to the motif as well, knowing the stitch defintion and memory of this gorgeous merino would really shine. I chose a folded brim (again, the squish) and designed the ribbed section to flow directly into the pattern on the body of the hat. My overall motif features nested diamonds with a bit of garter stitch for contrast, paired with big, ribbed cables that open up beautifully when worn with a little negative ease. Crown shaping comes right out of the pattern and gives the top of the hat a subtle bunched effect. As always, the pattern is both charted and written out, and notes are included in the PDF on making alterations for size if desired. This one would be perfect for gifting in a few months..... **Sizing** 16(18.5,21.25)”/40.75(47,54)cm circumference in final fabric, laid flat. I suggest choosing a size with 1-2”/2.5-5cm of negative ease, so pattern can stretch around head. 8(8.5,8.5)”/20.25(21.5,21.5)cm deep from cast-on to center crown once brim is hemmed. 9.5(10.5,10.5)”/24.25(26.75,26.75)cm deep before brim is hemmed. **Yardage per Size/Yarn Notes** 195(215,245)yds/180(195,225)m needed. Note that yardage may vary with substitute yarns, alternate needle sizes, or modification to pattern. Serene DK is a round, bouncy DK yarn. If substituting yarn, you need a fiber with good stitch definition and memory. I suggest using a solid shade so the detail can show up. Sample shown knit in Size 2, in the Red Poppy colorway. *Yardage for the second size is almost full single skein, so plan accordingly.
