**Il Gattopardo Hat** is a cute hat with a pretty band of leopard print. It has nearly the same colourwork as [https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/il-gattopardo-vest] so it can be its best friend if you fancy playing matchy-matchy or it can make a spot on statement on its own.
The colourwork band can be worked with duplicate stitch or with 3 colour stranded knitting.
And it's also a great project to have fun with leftover yarn !
**Sizes**
1, 2, 3 and 4:
1, for a hat circumference of 47 cm/ 18.75", meant for a head circumferences of 50 cm/20" to 53 cm/20.75",
2, for a hat circumference of 49 cm/ 19.5", meant for a head circumference of 53 cm/ 20.75" to 56 cm/ 22.5",
3, for a hat circumference of 51.5 cm/ 20.5", meant for a head circumference of 56 cm/ 22.5" to 59 cm/24".
4, for hat circumference of 54 cm/ 21.5", meant for a head circumferences of 59 cm/24" to 63 cm/25.25".
Il Gattopardo hat is meant to be worn with a negative ease of approximately 4 to 8 cm/1.4" to 3.25" but you are of course free to decide how snug you want your hat to be and hence go for a size above or below.
**Suggested Yarn**
A DK yarn held single - sizes 1 and 2 samples were worked with SheepSoft DK by Laxtons, required meterage/yardage: approx. 175 m/191 yds, 180 m/197 yds, 185 m/202 yds or 190 m/208 yds of MC and 18 m/20 yds of each CC for the schematic measurements.
Or:
A fingering yarn held double - size 4 sample was worked with Aurinkokehra fingering held double, required meterage/yardage: approx. 350 m/383 yds, 360 m/394 yds, 370 m/406 yds or 380 m/416 yds of MC and 36 m/39 yds of each CC for the schematic measurements.
Kindly also bear in mind these are estimates and that actual yardage will depend on the exact yarn you are using, precise overall gauge and measurement as well as any modification you might want to do.
**gauge**
Stitch gauge determines the size of the hat so getting exact stitch gauge is essential.
For a size 1 hat: 23 sts and 30 rows in stockinette stitch after wet blocking for a 10 x 10 cm/4 x 4" square, worked in the round and 26 sts in unstretched ribbing after wet-blocking for 10 cm/4".
For a size 2 hat: 22 sts and 30 rows in stockinette stitch after wet blocking for a 10 x 10 cm/4 x 4" square, worked in the round and 25 sts in unstretched ribbing after wet-blocking for 10 cm/4".
For a size 3 hat: 21 sts and 30 rows in stockinette stitch after wet blocking for a 10 x 10 cm/4 x 4" square, worked in the round and 24 sts in unstretched ribbing after wet-blocking for 10 cm/4".
For a size 4 hat: 20 sts and 30 rows in stockinette stitch after wet blocking for a 10 x 10 cm/4 x 4" square, worked in the round and 23 sts in unstretched ribbing after wet-blocking for 10 cm/4".
