This is constructed sideways, from one wing tip to the other. As per illusion knitting, it looks like alternating stripes when viewed perpendicularly, but will reveal a leaves motif when viewed from an angle. The gauge is a loose restriction, needle to yarn choices are more vital. I suggest using a heavy DK to Worsted yarn and using the recommended needle on your yarn label (for 100% wool) or a needle 1mm (1 to 2 sizes smaller) smaller than the yarn label (for cotton, cotton blends, and acrylic). Avoid fuzzy, halo, and textured yarn. The finished product will be around 5.5 feet to 6 feet wide and 2.5 feet to 3 feet tall. You will need at least two contrasting colors to create the illusion pop. This project uses a simple triangular shawl as its canvas.
