Autumn Spirit Mat

Welcome to my first seasonal mat pattern Autumn Spirit Mat, I will also be creating the other seasons! I created my mat with 100% cotton Aran thickness yarn with a 4mm hook, smaller than recommended on the label but I needed the mat to be condensed, I wouldn’t recommend Acrylic for this mat as it would be too light and not as durable. You could use 100% wool in an Aran thickness or macrame yarn. A placemat could be made with this pattern, but you’d have to use a thin yarn such as 4ply and a small hook, 2mm or 2.5mm. Drops Paris 50g/75m per skein, Yarnsmiths Cotton Aran 50g/80m per skein. Colour 1, Drops Paris [65] in Rust. 2 skeins, 79g/118.5m used. Colour 2, Yarnsmiths Cotton Aran [4068D] Coffee Fudge. 2 skeins, 85g/136m used. Colour 3, Yarnsmiths Cotton Aran [4065] Warm Taupe. 1 skein, 25.5g/41m used. Colour 4, Yarnsmiths Cotton Aran [4062] Blush. 3 skeins, 105g/169m used. Colour 5, Yarnsmiths Cotton Aran [4079B] Cocoa. 5 skeins, 209.5g/335m used. For my border I used colour 4 [blush], 19.5g, colour 3 [Warm Taupe] 41.5g, and colour 2 [Coffee Fudge] 33g. My mat measures 28”/19” , 71cm/48cm, with the border and a 4mm hook. Delz used a 4.5mm hook for her stunning mat in Hobby Lobby's: I Love This Cotton. Background colour used was Spunky 540 yards. The Detailed colours, Antique Gold 280 yards, Orange 180 yards, Gold 75 yards, Sage 110 yards, Olive 20 yards. A 4.0mm hook was used for the boarder. I love how Delz used the tapestry technique for her mat. Saffy’s Beautiful mat was created with Drops Paris Aran 100% cotton, in brown 250g, light yellow 100g, Vanilla 60g, Tangerine 60g, Rust 60g, Wasabi 40g, Red 40g, Black 125g. Lynn used Rico Creative Cotton Aran in shades fox (100g) pistachio (100g) fuchsia (50g) brown (200g) and Utopia Crafts Re-cotton (100g). Beautiful Mat! Patience’s gorgeous mat was created with; for the main mat. Hobby lobby I love this cotton 3.5g 165m/180y, Colour 1 252 purple 2.1oz, Colour 2 52 Forrest 2.6oz, Colour 3 82 burnt Siena 1.7oz, Colour 4 14 gold 3oz, Colour 5 18 bruschetta 6.8oz. Measurements 33"x26" with border and 28" x20" without. 4mm hook for pattern and 3.5mm for border. Patience used a border pattern of designer Robin Parent who was happy for us to share her work, here’s the link to the pattern. https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/fall-mosaic-border-pack Luci used Yarnsmiths Aran 100% Cotton [same colours as listed in my mat] for her amazing mat, without the border with a 3.5mm hook Colour 1, 78g, Colour 2, 73g, Colour 3, 30g, Colour 4, 111g, Colour 5, 193g. Finished measurements are as follows, 29” by 19.5” without the border, 31” by 21.5” with the border. Pip used Yarnsmiths Cotton Aran for her beautiful mat, for the main panel, Colour 1 Ginger - 62gms, Colour 2 Tangerine - 81gms, Colour 3, Caramel Fudge - 54gms, Colour 4 (Drops Paris) Yellow (colour 35) - 98gms, Colour 5 Coffee Bean - 170gms with a 4mm hook. Pip’s mat used approximately 90g for the border with a 3.5mm hook. Front and back borders 1 row of single crochet, 1 row double crochet each and 1 row single crochet to join front and back.
