Drawing on Gio Ponti’s geometric designs for Richard Ginori, Chainoir takes inspiration from his Catene pattern, first designed in 1926. Its interlocking forms combine repetition and structure to create a sense of movement. Here, narrow rectangles and horizontal bars form a continuous chain-like motif that travels around the Hat. Each Hat in the Iterations collection is knitted bottom-up and in the round. The ideal yarn for these Hats is 4-ply or light sportweight, in a multi-plied fibre with some natural give, such as merino. This pattern is available individually, or as part of the Iterations collection eBook. **Hat Description** Chainoir is a stranded colourwork Hat worked from the bottom up in two colours. The colours are equally weighted in the pattern, using two-stitch and two-row patterning. The Hat starts with a corrugated rib brim that’s finished with a lateral braid. The body pattern features a linked chain pattern, which alternates and repeats vertically all the way around, creating a striking graphic effect. The crown features the chains converging towards the centre. **Pattern Details** **Yarn** Yarn A: 101yd/92m; Yarn B: 116yd/106m 4ply/Sock weight or sport weight, plied yarn; high contrast solid, semi-solid or variegated yarns. **Needles & Notions** Set 2.75mm (3mm) DPNs/Circular or size needed to obtain gauge Circular needle, 2 sizes smaller 2.75mm (3mm) crochet hook Stitch markers as necessary Tapestry needle **Sample Details** Shown in Malabrigo Arroyo shades ‘Frank Ochre’ & ‘Whale's Road’ (335yd/306m per 100g; 100% Superwash Merino) Shown in size 22in/56cm on model with 23in/58.5cm circumference head **Size & Gauge** To fit size: 20in/50.75cm; use 2.75mm needles Gauge: 30 sts x 36 rows over Corrugated Rib, 30 sts x 32 rows over Stranded pattern, 28 sts x 36 rows over St.St. to 4in/10cm Finished sizes: Circumference: 16.75in/42.5cm Length: 8.5in/21.5cm To fit size: 22in/56cm; use 3mm needles Gauge: 28 sts x 34 rows over Corrugated Rib, 28 sts x 30 rows over Stranded pattern, 26 sts x 34 rows over St.St. to 4in/10cm Finished sizes: Circumference: 18in/45.75cm Length: 9in/22.75cm **Pattern Notes** This pattern is graded by gauge.
