HAPpy Scarf

**CONSTRUCTION** The construction of this scarf is a little twist on the modern construction method of a Shetland Hap shawl. This scarf begins with 1 stitch at the bottom point with yarnovers and increases worked to shape the triangle into a shallower, wider triangle. This scarf can be worked to any size, whether in stripes, solid color, or using random leftovers. **FINISHED MEASUREMENTS** Note: You can work this scarf to your desired width and depth. Small Scarf: Approx. 35 ¾" / 91 cm wingspan and 11 ½" / 29 cm spine depth. Large Scarf: Approx 51" / 129.5 cm wingspan and 16 ½" / 42 cm spine depth. **MATERIALS** Yarn: Fingering-weight yarn in the following amounts: For Small Stripey Scarf: MC & CC, 115 yds / 105 m each. For Small Single Color Scarf: 230 yds / 210 m. For Large Stripey Scarf: MC & CC, 175 yds / 160 m each. For Large Single Color Scarf: 350 yds / 320 m. Shown in Gudrun's Versions: Jamieson’s of Shetland Spindrift (100% Shetland Wool; 115 yds / 105 m per 25 g ball) in shades Pine Forest and Cocoa (stripey scarf) and Prussian (single color scarf) both size small. Alisha’s Happy (pink and beige version): Lamb and Kid Elmer Fingering (80% merino, 20% cashmere goat; 400 yds / 366 m per 100 g ball) in shades Cashew and Pop Rocks. Alisha’s Happy (green gradient version): Spincyle Dyed In The Wool (100% wool; 200 yds / 183 m per 50 g ball) in shade Holy Toledo. Note: Single Color Scarf sample uses a silk mohair lace-weight yarn held with the fingering-weight yarn (this is optional). Needles: US 6 / 4 mm circular needle, 16" / 40 cm, 32" / 80 cm and 40" / 100 cm lengths (you may need longer cables as the scarf increases in size). Always use a needle size that will result in the correct gauge after blocking. Notions: Tapestry needle, optional removable stitch marker or scrap yarn to mark RS of scarf. **GAUGE** 19 sts & 39 rows = 4" / 10 cm over Garter Stitch, worked flat using main needle, after blocking.
