Welterweight is an intuitive kerchief with a few unique angles and finishing details—it’s a satisfying little knit, and I’m kind of surprised I never published the full-size version of it, because my drafts for that go back to 2018. The welting pattern gives the mini-shawl a wonderful visual texture and flexibility, while the little construction details will lend themselves well to a scrap project or multicolored yarn. You can, obviously, run with the foundational pattern and knit this into a shawl as big as practicality and yarn supply allows. As shown, this project only takes about 70% of a skein, and requires a single circular needle (used to knit flat), so it’s pretty portable. **Gauge**: Gauge is 24 sts and 44 rows over 4"/10cm of garter stitch, worked flat and blocked. Please be sure to check your gauge. **Materials:** * 70g/308 yards of Malabrigo Yarn Sock; sample shown in Frank Ochre * 1 40”+ circular needle in US 4/3.5mm, or size needed for gauge tapestry needle for weaving in ends * removable stitch marker—optional, but nice to have to easily keep track of progress/stitch counts. > Get a free draft version of the > downloadable pattern through 10am on > Saturday, August 15th! No coupon code > required; enjoy! Oh, last minute thing: the sample is Malabrigo Yarn Sock in Cirrus Grey—with the last couple of rows and bindoff in Candombe. It’s a little subtle, but you can probably spot the richer purples of the second colorway.
