The Flying Solo Shawlette is your next favorite knit!
Experience Level: Advanced Beginner
The Flying Solo Shawlette is a triangular shawlette with a mixture of simple stitch patterns that are repeated throughout. It’s designed to work with a 100 gram skein of your favorite fingering weight yarn. The stitch patterns lend themselves to an array of color families and dye styles; optional beading gives this shawlette some extra sparkle. This pattern is easily adaptable for a larger sized shawl made with additional yardage or a thicker yarn and larger needles.
Construction Details: The shawl is worked in one piece. The pattern starts out at the "small" corner and increases along the shawl's length to the other straight edge. The pattern is a repeat of 60 textural rows that include mesh lace, knit/purl texture, wrap and drops, and optional beading on stockinette stitch.

**Flying Solo Shawlette** is an easy knitting pattern for a triangle shawlette worked sideways, flat, and seamless in a single piece. A garter stitch foundation gains texture through slipped stitches, open mesh sections, and intentionally placed dropped stitches, producing a light, elastic wrap that blooms with blocking. One gradient skein carries you from cast-on to bind-off.
Construction and Technique
--------------------------
• Worked flat and sideways from tip to tip, shaped as one seamless piece
• Garter stitch base with slipped-stitch detailing and mesh sections for open, airy texture
• Dropped stitches placed intentionally for an elongated, ladder-like mesh effect
• Triangle shawlette shape with neat selvedge edges throughout
• Easy skill level: accessible to knitters comfortable with basic increases, decreases, and yarn overs
Materials
---------
• **Yarn weight**: fingering weight / CYC size 1 (Super Fine)
• **Yardage**: 400-450 yds (366-411 m) of fingering weight merino

• **Needles**: US 7 / 4.5 mm (larger than standard fingering-weight sizing, intentional for open mesh gauge; always follow pattern gauge)
• **Gauge, unblocked**: 19 sts x 40 rows = 10 cm / 4 in in garter stitch
• **Gauge, blocked**: 17 sts x 32 rows = 10 cm / 4 in in garter stitch
• Gradient and hand-painted skeins show off the stitch texture especially well
Sizing
------
