Greater Boston Yarn Crawl shawl pattern for 2026.
Saltwater is a crescent shawl with a contrasting short-row wave pattern and i-cord edge. It begins with an i-cord cast-on and increases two stitches at each edge on every row to form the crescent. Although you can break the yarn at the end of each section, I recommend carrying the unused yarn up inside the i-cord edge. Be sure not to work the i-cord too tightly, or the top edge of your shawl will pucker!
**Materials**:
Color A: Approximately 100g (220yds/200m) worsted weight yarn (shown in Ella Rae Color Marvel)
Color B: Approximately 100g (220yds/200m) worsted weight yarn (shown in Berroco Ultra Wool)
Size 8 (5mm) needle, at least 40 in/100 cm long
Two stitch markers
Darning needle
Note: If your chosen yarn has less than 220yds per skein or you’re concerned about running short, you can choose the garter stripe option for section 2, which uses slightly less yarn, and/or omit rows 59-62 in section 6.
Exact gauge is not vital for this project, although it will affect the
finished size of the shawl and the amount of yarn needed. Choose a needle size that produces a fabric at about 16 stitches/4 inches (10 cm). The finished wingspan is about 60 inches (150 cm).
