Skagit vest

Skagit uses a traditional colorwork pattern called Flying Geese, which reminds me of the great flocks of snow geese that overwinter on the fertile valley where the Skagit River meets the Salish Sea. This gently cropped vest features tailored shoulders with garter stitch short rows and distinctive cap sleeves. Wear it alone or layer it as the season requires. The vest is worked in one piece to the underarms, then divided for working the upper back and fronts separately. Shoulders are shaped with German short rows and the neckline is finished with I-cord. Skagit is designed for 2-4” ease at chest and at high hip. The larger sizes have more A-line shaping to achieve a good fit at the shoulders; choose a size that gives you 3-4” of ease beyond your point-to-point shoulder measurement. Short rows lengthen the back by 1”. Suggestions are given for grading between sizes, lengthening the torso, and adding darts if desired.
