NEEDLES: US size 1.5 (2.5 mm) or size needed to obtain gauge SKILL LEVEL: Intermediate: This shawl is perfect for knitters who have some experience with short rows. The wrap and turn method is used to achieve the unique color changes. Slip stitches are also used to create the hexagonal shapes throughout the piece. Notes from the Designer: Miella, a variant of the French word for “honey,” is a rectangular shawl made with Honeycomb Stitch and short rows. Indulge in the delicious sweetness of four beautiful Ephemeral Fingering colors plus one contrast color, while recreating the intriguing hexagonal mystery of nature fashioned by the industrious bee. As I was knitting the sample shown, I had some fun researching a little about honey and the many different colors it can have. I was happily surprised to learn that the colors I used represent actual colors of honey! * Click [here][7] to watch a video showing how to get started on this shawl, plus how to work the wrap and turn rows and pick up the wraps. * The sample shown used approximately 1,598 yds/1,461 m total: Color A: 519 yds/474.5 m, Color B: 312 yds/285.5 m, Color C: 263 yds/240.5 m, Color D: 263 yds/240.5 m, and Color E: 241 yds/ 220.5 m. * This rectangular shawl is worked from long side to long side, unlike most shawls which are worked from short end to short end. * Since there are so many stitches for the cast on, it is recommended to use two ends of the yarn ball to achieve the Long Tail Cast On method. This way, you have no chance of running out of yarn for the long tail. * Only one color is used at a time. Cut colors as indicated in pattern. When color is NOT cut, carry it along right edge. * Short rows are used to create the unique color changes by wrapping and turning (w&t) in strategic places. For each pattern repeat, the same stitch will be wrapped twice. Be careful to remember to lift the wraps, and knit them together with the wrapped stitch when it is worked in a subsequent row. * Every 12 rows, the colors shift to the right by 12 stitches. * Markers are used throughout to help with placement of short rows. Pay close attention to where markers are to be placed and when they are to be removed. Unless otherwise indicated in pattern, slip markers as you come to them. *Designed by Donielle Oliver Showvay* You’ll receive a digital file only (instantly downloadable as a PDF) and won’t be shipped anything.
