❤︎Introduction The ‘Coral Reef Cardigan’ is inspired by traditional Aran-style cardigans. Instead of the familiar side moss stitch panels often found is classic Aran designs, this cardigan features flowing cable motifs that create a fresh and distinctive look. The cables running along the side seams resemble clusters of coral reefs gathered beneath the sea, which inspired the name. This cardigan follows the unique construction method of ‘Hallim handwears’, a traditional knitting technique from Jeju, the beautiful island off the southern coast of Korea. While the technique reflects traditional garment-making methods, the overall silhouette has been adjusted to suit modern proportions. The sleeve are designed slightly longer and the body slightly shorter, creating a balanced silhouette that pairs well with contemporary styling. The construction is bottom-up. The back, left front, right front, and two sleeves are knitted separately and then joined using a tapestry needle. Rather than using a typical bottom-up seaming method, the pieces are connected following the traditional Hallim handwears joining technique. The Coral Reef Cardigan is available in five sizes(1-5) based on bust circumference. This pattern includes both written instructions and charts. The difficulty level is relatively advanced, so it may not be suitable for beginners or for those knitting their first garment or first textured pattern. Technique videos are provided for some of the more challenging sections, but a full step-by-step video tutorial is not included. Although it may feel challenging at first, working through each row will bring the joy of learning new techniques and the satisfaction of creating something special. Enjoy knitting the Coral Reef Cardigan, where traditional craftsmanship meets a modern silhouette. ❤︎Gauge 24 sts x 30 rows = 10cm x 10cm in pattern using 4mm needles, measured after blocking.
