A Fair Isle-inspired cowl (coordinating hat available seperately) knit with a heavier-weight fingering. For best results, I would recomment a woollen-spun yarn such as my own hand-dyed 'Fat Fingering' or Jamieson's 'Spindrift'. Construction involves a provisional cast-on using a crochet chain, knitting in the round, weaving in ends and grafting/kitchener stitch. Needles: 60cm/24” circular needle in size US6 (4mm), or whatever needle size allow you to achieve gauge. You will need a second needle in the same size, or smaller, for when it comes time to graft the ends together. Crochet Hook: 5mm or larger. Yarn: I used the following colours and quantities of ‘Fat Fingering’ for the sample, a woollen-spun fingering weight from my own hand-dyed business ‘Bona Yarns’: Colour A - Eva: approx. 120 metres Colour B - Flint: approx. 95 metres Colour C - Pebble: approx. 95 metres Colour D - Dunwich: approx. 150 metres Colour E - Along Came A Spider: approx. 135 metres Colour F - Bluebottle: approx. 90 metres Colour G. Steal: approx. 135 metres Colour H - The Deep: approx. 135 metres Colour I - Drift: approx. 120 metres Colour J - Farthing: approx. 115 metres Colour K - Roasted Pumpkin: approx. 80 metres Colour L - Turmeric: approx. 120 metres Colour M - The Colonel: approx. 75 metres Colour N - Hot Dog: approx. 85 metres Gauge: 27 stitches by 31 rows in stranded colour work (post-blocking). Gauge is not critical, but working at a smaller/larger gauge will, of course, result in a smaller/larger garment and affect how much yarn you use. Finished Dimensions: 33cm (approx 13”) width, 195cm (approx 76” circumference). You will also need: Darning needle to weave in ends, stitch marker(s), scissors and scrap yarn in a fingering weight for the provisional cast-on.
