Chrysalis

Chrysalis is a triangular shawl that echoes the life cycle of a butterfly. It begins with a simple triangle, grows into a mosaic scale pattern, then dissolves into simple texture before re-emerging in a new pattern that echoes its beginning yet is not the same (just as a caterpillar liquefies in its chrysalis before taking on its new form). This shawl was made a for a dear friend in the depths of change, as a reminder that we can remake ourselves at any time. Mosaic colourwork is wonderful as you only work with one colour at a time, slipping sts to create a scintillating pattern that creates a slightly 3 dimensional effect over the solid background. The pattern suits any yardage of fingering to DK weight yarn, ideally in a trio of solid, gradient, or soft speckles. The sample used 32g/120m of C1, 31g/114m of C2, and 97g/355m of C3. Designed with yarn from [Madlaine Yarns][1] in the beautiful Vosges, France. * The size of the shawl is adaptable, both the texture stitch and the lace sections can be worked to any size. * Suits 400 weight yarn in any yardage between approx 300m and 900m. * The design can be worked entirely from the written pattern, or from charts with some notes. * Circular needles are required for transition from chart 2 to 3.
