Calico

Calico is a light and airy triangle shawl reminiscent of your favorite flower print dress. I designed it to be wide enough to wrap and drape nicely while only needing two skeins of fingering weight yarn. It’s the fourth in a series of projects using the concept of Assigned Pooling. Assigned Pooling occurs when a change in stitch and texture is assigned to changes in color within a skein of variegated yarn. In this case, simple Stockinette Stitch is assigned to the main color to create a backdrop for the floret cluster stitch assigned to the accent color. Yarn​​ 2 skeins of Barker Wool Solo Fingering, (100% Superwash Fine Merino Wool) in the colorway Wild Violet. Finished Measurements 76” wide x 26” deep after blocking. Needles US size 5 (3.75 mm) Gauge 24 STS x 32 rows = 4” x 4” in Stockinette ST Every assigned pooling project will be as unique as the yarn you choose. Use these instructions as a basic guide, and let your creativity flow with the color changes in your variegated skein. These principles can be applied to many different shapes, just as many different texture stitches can be exchanged for the Floret Cluster stitch. Try different texture combinations and choose your favorite. I created Assigned Pooling to provide a new way to embrace color pooling by letting the color changes have control of the texture pattern.
