Escanda

**English below.** El chal Escanda fue diseñado para la 3ª edición de [Barcelona Knits][1]. Es un chal triangular simétrico que se empieza por una esquina con un calado y se va aumentando por un lado gradualmente hasta llegar a la mitad. En ese momento se empieza a disminuir hasta acabar en la otra punta. Su longitud se puede adaptar fácilmente: se puede usar una madeja de lana de grosor fingering o más, dependiendo del largo que prefieras. La escanda es una especie de trigo muy antigua que hoy en día solo se sigue cultivando en Asturias y algunas otras pequeñas zonas del mundo. **MATERIALES** • agujas circulares de 4 mm (US6) y una longitud de 80 cm. También puedes usar agujas rectas. • Marcador • Aguja lanera **LANA** Lana de grosor fingering (400 m por 100 g). Yo usé [Yarnitas Lush Sock][2] en color Prunela. Necesitarás 400 m pero puedes adaptarlo fácilmente a otras cantidades: divide la cantidad de lana que tienes en 2 y usa la primera mitad hasta el final de la sección 2 (este punto es la mitad del chal). **TENSIÓN** Después de bloquear: 17 puntos y 28 vueltas (14 rayas de punto bobo) en 10 cm. La tensión no es demasiado importante en un chal pero puede afectar a las dimensiones finales. **DIMENSIONES** Después de bloquear: aproximadamente 185 cm de punta a punta y 47 cm de alto en el centro. It's a symmetrical triangular shawl. You start it in one corner with a lace section and you start increasing gradually until you get to the middle. At that stage you start decreasing until you get to the other corner. Its length can be easily adjusted: you can either use one fingering-weight skein or more, depending on how long you want it. Escanda is a very ancient type of spelt wheat that is only grown in a few parts of the world, including the northern Spain region of Asturias, where I'm from. **MATERIALS** • 4 mm (US6) circular needles, 80 cm (32") long. You can also use straight needles for this shawl. • Marker • Tapestry needle **YARN** Fingering weight yarn (400 m/437 yds per 100 g). I used [Yarnitas Lush Sock][5] in the Prunela colourway. You need 400 m (437 yds) but you can easily adjust the pattern to other amounts: divide the amount of yarn you have in 2 and use the first half up to the end of section 2 (half way through the shawl). **GAUGE** After blocking: 17 st and 28 rows (14 garter ridges) in 10 cm (4"). Gauge is not important for this shawl but it can affect the final dimensions. **DIMENSIONS** After blocking (400 m shawl): approximately 185 cm (72") wingspan and 47 cm (18 ½") spine.
