*Speckle & Pop was originally part of the Westknits Mystery Shawl KAL 2017. The fingering weight version uses three main colors combined with five color pops for a speckletacular shawl. Fade the main colors from light to dark in the first short row section while adding contrasting eyelet stripes. Slipped stitches mix the main colors together along the edge of the shawl followed by giant yarn over holes. Choose between two-color brioche or garter stitch for the final chevron border. Decorate the edging with a contrast color I-cord bind off. Instructions also include a large shlanket (shawl + blanket) size using DK weight yarn.* This pattern is also available in Westknits Bestknits 3 - Shawl Evolution. If you download this pattern from the [Westknits Bestknits e-book][1], the yarn and color information may be slightly altered to reflect the samples photographed in the book, but the instructions remain the same. **Sizes** Small (Large) **Finished Measurements** 86 (105)" / 218 (267)cm wingspan length, 25 (30)" / 64 (76)cm from I-cord neck edge to I-cord chevron bind off. Measurements taken after blocking. **Yarn** Fingering (DK) weight **Yardage** Small Fingering Weight Version MC1 - 400yds / 366m MC2 - 400yds / 366m MC3 - 400yds / 366m CC1 - 87yds / 80m CC2 - 87yds / 80m CC3 - 87yds / 80m CC4 - 87yds / 80m CC5 - 87yds / 80m] Select 3 colors of fingering weight yarns in a colorful speckled fade. I recommend 3 speckled colors, but you can also use solid colors if you prefer. I recommend a light, medium, and dark color for these 3 main colors. Select 5 contrast colors for your color pops. These contrast pops will show best if they are different from your main colors. **Large DK Weight Version** Main Colors - Approximately 1400yds / 1280m total I recommend using 7 or 8 skeins/colors for the main colors. To fade your main colors, gather a palette from light to dark. The sample shows 3 lighter main colors for SECTION 1 and darker main colors for SECTIONS 2 & 3. If you would like all sections to feature the same main colors, then I would get 3 main colors, 2 skeins each (6 total DK skeins). Then choose 1 additional dark main color (MC 3) and 1 additional light main color (MC 1) for the SECTION 3 chevron border. Contrast Colors - Approximately 87yds / 80m of each color (shown using 5 contrast colors) **Shown in** *Caramel Mogano Version* Dark Omen Merino Sock MC1 - Ipsen MC2 - Primaeval Woods MC3 - Qu's Marsh Darm Omen Merino Sock Mini CC1 - Unn CC2 - Caramel CC3 - Verdant CC4 - Mogano CC5 - Amdusias *Small Fingering Weight Version* Hedgehog Fibers Skinny Singles MC1 - Heyday MC2 - Fly MC3 - Potluck (one of a kind blue with speckles) Hedgehog Fibres Sock Minis CC1 - Hunter CC2 - Coral CC3 - Kid You Not CC4 - Hush CC5 - Wish **Large DK Weight Version** *Walk Collection Merino DK* SECTION 1 MC1 - Sprouts (lightest speckle) MC2 - Grunge Peach (medium peachy speckle) MC3 - Grunge Pop (darker green speckle) Contrast colors are leftover bits of other DK or worsted weight yarns. CC1 - Orange CC2 - Yellow CC3 - Green CC4 - Blue CC5 - Purple SECTION 2 MC1 - Grunge Peach (light creamy speckle) MC2 - Open Sesame (medium gray speckle) MC3 - Galaxy (dark gray speckle) SECTION 3 MC1 - light creamy neutral for the brioche background color MC3 - Galaxy (dark gray) When MC 3 Galaxy color ran out, I used a medium gray color for the brioche foreground. I recommend using 7 or 8 skeins/colors total for the MC of the DK weight version. The sample shows 3 light creamy speckles fading from light to dark in SECTION 1. SECTIONS 2 & 3 use mostly darker speckled skeins for the slipped stitches and the giant yarn overs with brioche. In SECTION 3, a dark foreground color (MC 3) will pop with high contrast against a lighter background color (MC 1). **Needles** 47" US4 (8) / 3.5 (5)mm circular **Notions** 62 (76) stitch markers, tapestry needle **Gauge** 22 (18) sts & 52 (36) rows = 4" / 10cm in garter stitch **Errata** For the post-MKAL PDF file (single pattern, not clues) --- Section 2 Row 7 (RS): delete instructions that follow "..... turn to work WS." as what follows is a copy of Row 8 (WS) and *not* part of Row 7 (RS) instructions. PDF corrected August 16, 2018. In the individual PDF, the end of the Large Size Section 2 stitch counts should be 485 sts in the last RS rows and 484 sts in the last WS row... **Next Row (RS):** Using CC4, k3, M1L, k to last 3 sts while closing the short row gaps, sl3 wyif. 485 sts. **Next Row (WS):** K2, ssk, (yo, k2tog) 239 times, k1, sl3 wyif. 484 sts. **Westknits Workshops** Venture into the world of Westknits with my series of online workshops.
