Knitted from the bottom up in stockinette stitch, this hat features a thick, naturally rolling brim and a neat, tapered crown that finishes with a whimsical hand-crafted bird tip. The beak is knitted separately and sewn on, while the eyes can be embroidered or created with small buttons to give your bird its own personality. **Size Guide** XS (S) M (L) The Tweet Beanie is designed to have approximately 3–5 cm [1¼–2 inches] of negative ease, meaning it should be smaller than your actual head circumference for a secure, comfortable fit. To fit head circumference: 51-53 (54-56) 57-59 (60-62) cm [20–20¾ (21¼–22) 22½–23¼ (23½–24½) inches] Measure your head using a tape measure just above the ears to determine the correct size before casting on. **Gauge** 20 sts × 35 rounds = 10 × 10 cm [4 × 4 inches] in stockinette stitch worked in the round on 3.5 mm [US 4] needles, after washing and blocking. **Needles** Circular needles: 3.5 mm [US 4] / 100 cm [40 inches] for working in the round using the Magic Loop technique. Double-pointed needles (DPNs): 3.5 mm [US 4] for the crown decreases and beak (unless using Magic Loop throughout). **Materials** Main Color: 60 (65) 70 (75) g of Double Sunday by Sandnes Garn (50 g = 108 m [118 yds]). Samples are knitted in Double Sunday in the colorways Bristol Black (3800) and Whipped Cream (1012). Contrast Colors (Beak & Eyes): A small amount of leftover yarn of similar DK thickness (approx. 100 m [109 yds] per 50 g). Sample beak is knitted in Double Sunday in That Orange Feeling (3819). **Notions** 6 stitch markers (including one distinct marker for the beginning of the round), tapestry needle, scissors. For eyes: stiff paper and tailor’s chalk (if embroidering), or two small buttons and sewing thread. **Techniques Used** Long-tail cast on, knitting in the round, simple decreases (k2tog), simple increases (kfb), Magic loop, picking up stitches, and basic embroidery/sewing for finishing.
