NEEDLE: US size 10 (6.0 mm) circular needles, or size needed to obtain gauge US size 9 (5.5 mm) circular needles (or one size smaller than main needle), for neckband and three-needle bind off SKILL LEVEL: Adventurous Beginner to Intermediate: For knitters who are ready to learn some new skills or stitch combinations. Concepts include basic garment construction, working in the round and flat, working in pattern stitch, and finishing and blocking techniques. Notes from the Designer: Imogene is a generously sized, casual vest. Knit with bulky yarn, this vest knits up fairly quickly. Combinations of knit and purl stitches form textural interest, while also keeping it appropriate for an adventurous beginner. The vest is designed to fall just below the high hip. It may easily be lengthened or shortened to a cropped style. Construction begins with the front and back ribbed hem, knit flat. These are then joined, and the vest is knit in the round to the armholes. Binding off at the underarm allows for the front and back to be knit flat to the shoulders. The shoulders are then joined using a three-needle bind off. The stitch pattern used at the armhole edges creates a neat rolled edge, so that the addition of the neckband is all that is required to finish the vest. * Click [here][7] to watch a video to learn more about this beautiful vest and why it’s sometimes okay to be a “selfish maker.” * Yardage usage in bulky-weight patterns can vary a lot if your tension is inconsistent. If you tend to knit loosely, it is advisable to have a little more yarn than what is called for in the pattern. * Making a gauge swatch is critical to achieve the desired results. Please DO NOT assume that you knit to the same gauge as I do. Yes, it is an extra step, but it also ensures that what you are knitting will produce what you expect. Plus, you won’t need to worry about running out of yarn. * For all slip stitches, insert needle as if to purl with yarn in back (unless noted otherwise). * The pattern is written for standard length. Modifications for a cropped version are at the end of the pattern. * The number of stitches picked up in each section of the neckband is the suggested amount. The most important thing is that there are no gaps or puckering, so the neckband lays flat. If you need to pick up more or less stitches, make adjustments in the first row of ribbing by evenly decreasing or increasing to arrive at the correct number of stitches for the neckband. *Designed by Jane Vanselous* You’ll receive a digital file only (instantly downloadable as a PDF) and won’t be shipped anything.
