Lucy Lemon

I first made this character on a whim as a gift. She was such a hit with the recipient and my friends that I decided to create this pattern to share that joy with others. Lucy Lemon is knit top-down, in the round. You start with an i-cord, then knit the hat, followed by the body. Stitches are picked up to knit the brim before finishing the body. The brim is worked flat in stockinette stitch and includes a few short rows for shaping. Once the brim is knit, you will attach the eyes, stuff the body, and finish the bottom. I used [Briggs and Little Heritage 2-ply][1] heavy worsted/aran weight yarn. You will need 18 yards of the hat color and 18 yards of the body color. Additionally, you'll need 6 yards of DK or worsted weight yarn for each leaf, and 1.5 yards of fingering or DK weight black yarn for the mouth. These measurements include a ~15% buffer, so you will likely use slightly less. The finished Lucy Lemon, knit in heavy worsted/aran weight yarn, measures approximately 6" in height (4.5" for the body and hat, and 1.5" for the i-cord loop). You could knit a smaller or larger Lucy Lemon by using different weight yarns. Be sure to change your needle size accordingly - I recommend sizing down about 2 US needle sizes from the recommended needle for your yarn. This creates a tight fabric that will hold stuffing well.
