Kiss Under the Mistletoe

Hanging mistletoe in our hallway by the front door is a favourite part of the Christmas preparations each year, reminding me of loved ones coming to visit and welcoming them there with a kiss. Mistletoe is so pretty with its curling oval leaves and pearly white berries and I think it’s often overlooked as a festive symbol in favour of brighter, spikier holly sprays, so I wanted to feature it in my mosaic panel as a symbol of winter and Christmas celebrations. I have to say I enjoyed the way the slender branches and leaf and berry clusters provide a good mix of frequent colour change rows and infrequent ones as you work through this design. I also introduced a few small asymmetrical elements to the design to keep its appearance organic if repeated and I hope you’ll enjoy it too. Sizes: one size, easy to extend. Tension: 17 sts x 17.5 rows = 10cm x 10cm / 4” x 4” measured over main patt rep using 3.75 mm hook, after blocking. Working method: Worked bottom up in alternate colour rows from RS cutting yarn after each row. Finished measurements a. Main Panel length (top to bottom; 29 R): 16.5 cm/6.5” b. Main Panel width (side to side; 51 sts): 30cm/12” Requirements Drops Muskat DK (100% cotton; 100m/109yd per 50g/1.8 oz) or similar yarn (Sample worked in Colour A Light Sea Green 89 and Colour B White 18) Colour A: 1 ball/65m/70yds Colour B: 1 ball/50m/110yds 3.75mm (US F/5) hook Yarn needle and scissors This pattern is provided in both UK terminology and US versions, both of which have a full visual chart for the project using standard mosaic crochet symbols.
