The **Bartlett Window Socks** are worked toe-up in a chevron motif, with a double gusset that provides gradual shaping through both the foot and leg. This gradual shaping makes them particularly well suited to self-striping yarns, while the chevron motif adds visual interest to the colour changes. Two ribbed triangles are worked using short rows to transition from the bias chevron motif to the ribbed cuff. An afterthought heel is worked using German Short Rows once the leg is complete. The pattern has been test knitted and professionally tech-edited. ## Gauge 36 stitches and 44 rows = 10 cm/4 inches in stockinette stitch. ## Difficulty Level This pattern is designed for advanced beginners and intermediate knitters. You should be comfortable reading your knitting and picking up stitches for an afterthought heel. Choose the size closest to the circumference around the ball of your foot, aiming for approximately 10% negative ease. The foot and leg lengths are adjustable. For foot length, ease should range from 10% negative ease to no ease, depending on your fit preference. The design was created with self-striping yarn in mind, but it works well with any yarn. If working the toe, heel and cuff in contrasting yarn, 25 g (100 m) is sufficient for all sizes. ## Needles 2.25 mm / US 1 needles for the sock body or the needle size needed to achieve gauge. Optionally, Use needles 1 to 2 sizes smaller for the cuff. The pattern is written to be needle-agnostic.
