For this project, I envisioned a boxy, comfy sweatshirt-type sweater that was not only unisex (think of the boyfriend sweater that you "borrow" from time to time) but also reversible, so it could look slightly different depending on who is wearing the sweater. I love textures that don't require constantly referring to a chart to knit. This one is easy to memorize, so it can be worked on the go. The stitch patt reminded me of echo wave charts and since I intended to wear mine as a hiking/ outdoor sweater. I loved the idea of hiking in a canyon with the echoes of nature. Sweatshirts are typically too tight around the neck for me, so this one is cut generously and the shoulder shaping helps keep the ribbing from digging into your neck, allowing you to move freely.This sweater is worked seamlessly, because when you are done knitting, you just want to be done! The patt is worked from the bottom up, and the shoulders are grafted together after some short row shaping. The neck is then worked using held stitches and then the sleeves are picked up from the body and worked down to cuff. Weave in some ends and you are ready to go.The split hem and the faux seam up the side of the sweater that continues under the sleeve make the sweater look a little more "finished". Two ease ranges are given below but choose the type of fit that you desire for the type of for which activity it will be used. The yarn is soft and has a wool-like feel, but is made for durable wear and is machine washable and dryable for easy care. Some colors have a slight tweed coloring for a more interesting sweater…and it's affordable! If you substitute, choose a plied yarn with memory, like non-superwash wool or blends. The sweater is then split for sleeves and worked flat, before finishing at the shoulders by grafting. Sleeves are then picked up from the body and worked in the round down to the cuff. Techniques: Tubular bind off Grafting Faux side seams: the 4 sts at the sides of the sweater between markers will be purled on each round (reverse St st) with the front and back panels worked in the chart. Tip: The sweater can be worn with either side out. When attaching a new skein of yarn, be careful how you weave in the tails so it is clean on both sides of the sweater.
