Ax

Inspired by the wheat fields during summer in the southern Sweden where the designer Emilia Jensen grew up. The formation of the ears (Ax in Swedish) of wheat, the grains stacked upon each other, was the main inspiration for the easy-to-memorise textured pattern found on the front of the mitten. SIZES 1 (2, 3) **Recommended ease:** 0–0.5" / 0–1.5 cm of positive ease. FINISHED MEASUREMENTS** **Total Length:** 9.5 (10.5, 11)" / (24 (26, 28) cm. **Hand Length:** 7.5 (8, 9)" / 18.5 (20.5, 22.5) cm. **Hand Circumference:** 6.5 (7.5, 8)" / 17 (19, 21) cm. **Thumb Circumference:** 2.5 (3, 3.5)" / 7 (8, 9) cm. MATERIALS **Yarn:** 1 skein of Eco DK by PRU Yarns (100% non-superwash Merino wool, 219 yds / 200 m – 100 g), in the colourway Palomino Tan. Or approx. 110 (130, 155) yds / 100 (120, 140) m of heavy DK-weight yarn. Alternative yarn suggestions are for example Mota by WoolDreamers, Atlas by Sandnes Garn or Léttlopi by Ístex. **Needles:** US 4 / 3.5 mm and US 6 / 4 mm 32" / 80 cm circular needles, or preferred needle style for working small circumference. **Notions:** Stitch markers, stitch holder or waste yarn. GAUGE 28 sts x 24 rnds to 4" / 10 cm on US 4 / 3.5 mm needles in 1 x 1 Rib, after blocking. 20 sts x 24 rnds to 4" / 10 cm on US 6 / 4 mm needles in St St, after blocking. 22 sts x 24 rnds to 4" / 10 cm on US 6 / 4 mm needles in Ax St Patt, after blocking. CONSTRUCTION The mittens are worked from bottom to top, starting with a 1 x 1 Rib cuff and continuing with the easy-to-memorise Ax Stitch Pattern on the back of the hand and St St on the palm. Left and right mitten are worked differently after the cuff for the main hand section, then are worked the same.
