Petrol Station is inspired by vintage promotional beanies, combining a relaxed feel with a refined look. Thanks to the carefully shaped crown, the beanie looks equally good worn slouchy or more closely fitted to the head. Worked top down, with an optional playful tassel, it is easy to use up the entire skein efficiently. SIZES 1 (2) Suitable for a head circumference of 21.25–22.5 ( 22.5–23.5)" / 54–57 (57–60 cm). MATERIALS **Yarn:** 1 ball of Gilliatt by De Rerum Natura (100% Merino, 270 yds / 250 m – 100 g), in the colourway Delphinium. Or approx. 176 (205) yds / 163 (190) m of worsted-weight yarn. Alternative suggestions are for example Manta by Vuonue or Mota by Wooldreamers. **Needles:** US 6 / 4 mm 32–40" / 80–100 cm circular needles. **Notions:** 9 stitch markers, a toilet paper roll tube or piece of cardboard (for the tassel). GAUGE 19 sts x 27 rnds to 4" / 10 cm on US 6 / 4 mm needles in St St, after blocking. 18 sts x 30 rnds to 4" / 10 cm on US 6 / 4 mm needles in 1x1 Rib, after blocking. CONSTRUCTION The beanie is worked top down in Stockinette Stitch and 1x1 rib. Stitches for the top of the crown are cast on using the Long-Tail CO method. The work begins with a few of short rows, after which stitches for the other side of the crown are picked up and knitted along the CO edge. Short rows are then worked on the other side as well. After this, the work continues in the round, and increases are worked at the sides as well as the front and back of the beanie. Once the increases are complete, Stockinette Stitch is worked until the start of the brim, which is worked in 1x1 rib. The brim is folded double (or triple, if customized), and the beanie is finished with a tassel (optional).
