GHOUL

Knit up a GHOUL wall hanging just in time for spooky season! A knitted GHOUL makes a great decor item for your home at any time of the year, if i'm being honest :) Perfect to hang on your door to creep out your neighbours, while simultaneously announcing that you're an awesome knitter with some serious stitchin' skills! **Skill Level**: Intermediate *(see notes) **Approximate Finished size**: 51 cm / 20 inches wide by 71 cm / 28 inches long **MATERIALS Yarn** I used this worsted weight dishcloth cotton yarn: Loops & Threads *Classic Cotton* (100% cotton; 109 metres / 120 yards per 70 grams / 2.5 ounces) 1 ball in colour Key Lime **Total yardage used**: Approximately 82 metres / 90 yards **Needles** I used 20 mm (sometimes these are marked as 19 mm / US 35, either is fine!) **Other Materials and Tools** • Tapestry needle (Optional. Used for weaving in ends. I didn’t bother!) • Dowel, broomstick, or curtain rod, minimum length 61 cm / 24 inches (For hanging!) • Cornstarch and Water (for starching finished piece) • Small cooking pot • Wooden spoon • Large bowl (minimum size approximately 2 Litres / Quarts) • Rubber Gloves • Access to stovetop • Washable, flat surface **GAUGE** Gauge is not essential, however with worsted weight yarn and 19 mm needles, my gauge was: 4 stitches by 6 rows per 10 cm / 4 inches in Stockinette Stitch **PATTERN NOTES** • Worsted weight yarn is recommended, but thicker or slightly thinner yarns can be used. Thinner yarns will create a more open and airy ghoul, while heavier and textured yarns will fill in the stitches more. • Any fibre type can be used, however keep in mind that the finished piece will be starched. Fluffy or voluminous yarns may change texture after starching. I recommend cotton dishcloth yarn because it is absorbent and stiffens well, it is usually very affordable and you'll only need 1-2 balls depending on brand. • Starching the finished piece is essential to a successful outcome of this wallhanging. Once bound off, the piece will be floppy and not look very impressive. Please take the time to follow starching instructions and take care when shaping your ghoul hanging to the desired look. Allow it to fully dry. • *This pattern is rated intermediate because of the various techniques used while managing extra large needles. However, there are only 43 rows, so I believe any knitter with experience in shaping with increases and decreases and/or some lace knitting experience can muster the ability to knit this with a bit of concentration and determination!
