Eva Shawl

Sizes: 1 (2) ● Level: 1/5 ● The Eva scarf is the quintessential, perfectly shaped triangular shawl. It features gently tapered, elongated corners, meaning the larger version is ideal for fully tucking your hair away. You can knot the ends loosely at the front, toss them over your shoulders, or wrap them once more around the back of your neck to secure them snugly under your chin. I always prefer scarves over beanies whenever my hair is tied up. The smaller version can be knotted around a bag strap as an accessory or worn around the neck, fitting effortlessly under the collar of a winter coat. This scarf makes for an excellent travel project, as the knitting requires very little focus and uses only a small amount of yarn. I actually knitted the blue version while visiting Paris. * FINISHED MEASUREMENTS Length: 125 (200) cm / 50 (80)". Width at Widest Point: 25 (35) cm / 10 (14)". Blue shawl in size 1, gray shawl in size 2. MATERIALS Yarn Fonty Coeur D’angora (80% angora, 20% merino, 108 m / 118 yds – 25 g). 50 (90) g in the colourway blue (318) or gray (211). Or 215 (390) m / 235 (425) yds of sport-weight yarn. Other yarn options include any lace-weight silk mohair held double, or any fluffy yarn. Needles 3.5 mm (US 4) circular needle. GAUGE 20 sts x 28 rows = 10 cm / 4" in Stockinette St with 3.5 mm (US 4) needle. Gauge is not critical, but it will affect yarn consumption. You can also use yarns of different weights with this pattern. CONSTRUCTION The shawl is worked from tip to tip, sideways. First, stitches are increased at the left edge so that the shawl widens, and after the halfway point they are decreased to shape the triangle. The larger size is designed to wrap around the head, the smaller size to tie around the neck. You can knit this pattern to any size — simply knit until you have used half your yarn, then begin the decreases.
