1916 Shawl

The 1916 Collection is a tribute to my great-grandmother. At the age of 7, she taught me how to knit. I still remember how the slippery metal double-pointed needles dropped to the floor countless times, but she never gave up. Over 20 years later, this collection is proof of my desire to pass on the craft she taught me. Another memory I cherish is when my sister and I were sick as children. She would fold out the sofa bed, give us a blanket, and make hot chocolate from scratch. This shawl is a memory of being wrapped in a blanket on that very sofa. The 1916 Shawl is a simple triangular shawl featuring an all-over lace pattern. The lace pattern repeats throughout the entire project, making it suitable even for those with less experience in lace knitting. The edges consist of an i-cord knitted simultaneously to give the shawl a beautiful, neat finish. It is knitted from tip to tip, with increases on one side followed by decreases on the same side. Size, unblocked: length 115 cm / 45.25", width at widest point 38 cm / 15" Size, blocked: length 130 cm / 51.25", width at widest point 42 cm / 16.5" Gauge: 10 x 10 cm / 4 x 4" in lace pattern: 24 stitches x 40 rows Yarn requirements: 424 meters / 464 yards Yarn alternatives: Isager Alpaca 2 (50g / 250 meters / 273 yards) held together with Silk Mohair (50g / 212 meters / 232 yards). The shawl is knitted with both strands held together. Needles: 3.5 mm / US 4 circular needles, length 60 or 80 cm / 24" or 32"
