The pattern of the Edith Sweater has a lovely vintage feel, with references to the 1980s as well as much older fishermen’s sweaters. The Edith Sweater, however, is a little more bold and distinctive in its expression than anything a fisherman probably would have chosen. Size guide Edith Sweater is designed to have approx. 20-25 cm [7.75-9.75”] of positive ease. Edith Sweater is shown with approx. 25 cm [9.75”] of positive ease, meaning the sweater is shown on a model with a bust circumference that is 25 cm [9.75“] smaller than the sweater's bust circumference. The length is measured at the center back excl. the neckline. Find your personal bust circumference by measuring around your chest (or the largest part of your upper body). Then look at the measurements at the beginning of the pattern (these are the finished measurements of the sweater). Positive ease is the difference between your personal measurement and the sweater's measurement. For example, if your bust circumference is 94 cm [37”], a size M will give you a positive ease of 21 cm [8.25”] (115 cm – 94 cm = 21 cm) [45.25”- 37” = 8.25”] Construction Edith Sweater is worked top down. First, the upper part of the back piece is worked until the middle of the cable pattern. Then, stitches are picked up for the upper part of the front pieces along the shoulders on the back piece. The front pieces are shaped with short rows and later increases for the neckline. Then the front piece is worked to the same row in the cable pattern as the back piece. Here the back and front is joined and the body is finished in the round. Stitches are picked up along the neckline, and the neckband is worked in rib. Finally, stitches are picked up along the sleeve opening and worked in stockinette stitch in the round.
