Spirits of Oban

Spirits of Oban is a shawlette worked sideways with one 100g (roughly 400m/437yd) skein of 4-ply/fingering weight yarn. Highlighting Barbara Walker’s Heartstrings and Celtic Knot patterns alongside original hearts, it uses gradual increases and decreases along the bottom border to create an elongated triangle shape that is versatile and wearable. This shawlette celebrates the transformative nature of shared experiences. Much as the water of Oban, through careful craft and innovation, becomes a beautiful amber dram, our lives are changed and distilled through the time we spend with those we love and value. This pattern is a tribute to a cherished trip to Oban, shared with my mother in December of 2024. We had a lovely time exploring the town, the distillery, and the harbour. Although I did not know at the time that it would be my last trip with her, we both knew that this time together was a priceless gift, giving us both sorely needed respite and wonderful memories to share.
