And this year, the Mystery goes far beyond discovering a crochet design one clue at a time. **Ayni is a Quechua word** that speaks of reciprocity. Of helping one another, of giving and receiving, and of understanding that what we do for others becomes part of something that, in one way or another, comes back to us. But Ayni goes beyond an exchange between two people. It speaks of community. Of understanding that we are not alone, that we need others and that others need us too. That what each of us contributes, however small it may seem, helps create something bigger. And perhaps that is why it feels like such a beautiful name for this Mystery. For a few weeks, we will be in different cities and countries, each of us with our own hands, our own colors and our own way of interpreting the design. And yet, we will be making something together. One stitch after another. One maker beside another. That is Ayni, too. **HOW DOES THE AYNI MYSTERY CAL WORK?** Throughout September, we will prepare our materials together, choose our colors, make our swatches and get everything ready to begin. And in October, the real mystery begins. Ayni will be revealed gradually **through 4 clues**, one each week. If you purchase the pattern on Ravelry, each clue will automatically be added as a pattern update (in English and Spanish), and you will receive the new PDF in your account each morning before we meet live on YouTube. We will also have live YouTube sessions where we can crochet together, work through any questions and share the experience as the Mystery unfolds. The live sessions will be held in Spanish, but I will do my best to upload the recordings to my YouTube channel afterwards so that YouTube’s translation tools can be used, and I will also add **English subtitles** so that English-speaking participants can follow along. As soon as you purchase the pattern, you will be able to **download the Ayni Mystery CAL Manual**, where you will find the calendar, materials, color suggestions, project worksheets, printables and everything you need to prepare for this adventure. **WHAT WILL YOU NEED?** Ayni is designed to be crocheted with **Fingering weight** yarn in 7 colors: * Color 1: 4 × 50 g skeins * Color 2: 3 × 50 g skeins * Colors 3, 4, 5, 6 & 7: 1 × 50 g skein of each color You will need 12 × 50 g skeins in total. You will also need a 3.5 mm crochet hook, tapestry needle, several locking stitch markers and your usual crochet notions. Y este año el Mystery va mucho más allá de descubrir un diseño de crochet pista a pista. Ayni es una palabra quechua que habla de reciprocidad.
