Krwawnik socks are inspired by humble yarrow flowers (*krwawnik* in polish). They are knitted toe up with an option to work a standard wedge toe or an anatomical toe. They feature a lace motif running up the front of the sock that's surrounded by slipped stitches and mock cable pattern. The ribbing flows directly from the main motif and it's finished with a rolled edge. You can also choose a picot edge with hidden ribbing inside and stretchy bind off. **Gauge:** 20 sts and 28 rows per 5 cm in stockinette in the round (blocked). Suggested needle size: 2.25 mm but use whatever size necessary to reach gauge. The gauge for this pattern is just for reference. If you know your sock size, I recommend choosing the size corresponding to your usual stitch count. If you don't or you're knitting these socks for someone else, I recommend knitting a gauge swatch and using a size calculator attached this pattern. It calculates the best size based on your foot and leg circumferences, preferred amount of negative ease and stitch gauge. Another cool calculator (I have a math degree so calculators are in fact cool to me) attached to this pattern is a foot length calculator. It calculates how many rows you should knit before the heel/gusset based on your row gauge. It also automatically translates the row count into instructions in chart repeats. This means that you can just type in your numbers and knit mindlessly until you're ready to work the heel or gusset. Speaking of heels and gussets, this pattern includes an optional gusset if you have higher instep. The heel is worked as a modified shadow wrap heel ([link][1]). I really like this heel because it's smooth on the inside, gives you a great fit without holes on both sides of the heel and it's really mindless to knit. **Yarn:** One and a half of a 100 g skein of fingering-weight sock yarn is sufficient for all sizes. Please note that this is just an approximation. Total yarn usage will depend on the yarn you use (fiber content, ply, etc.), your personal gauge and your desired foot and leg length. My yarn: Dark blue: Retrosaria Rosa Pomar (100% wool, 421 yards (385 meters) per 100 g) in 105 White: Fingering weight base for dyeing (80% wool, 20% linen) **Sizes:** Sizes 1, 2, 3, (4, 5, 6) that correspond to a sock of 58, 62, 66, (70, 74, 78) sts in circumference. Finished measurements: - leg/foot circumference: 14.5, 15.5, 16.5, (17.5, 18.5, 19.5) cm / 5.7, 6.1, 6.5, (6.9, 7.3, 7.7) in - heel circumference: 17.5, 18.7, 19.9, (21.1, 22.3, 23.5) cm / 7, 7.5, 8, (8.4, 8.9, 9.4) in - heel circumference with a gusset added: 20, 21.2, 22.9, (24.1, 25.8, 27) cm / 8, 8.5, 9.2, (9.6, 10.3, 10.8) in - foot length: adjustable - leg length: adjustable - cuff length (also adjustable): 4 cm / 1.6 in Pick a size that gives you negative ease of approx. 1.5-2.5 cm / 0.5-1 in. Again, if your gauge is different than mine, I recommend choosing your size based on your “usual” stitch count for socks and/or making a gauge swatch and adjusting accordingly. My gauge is pretty tight but I’ve written this pattern for the most common sock stitch counts. **Charts:** This pattern uses charts for the anatomical toe, main lace motif and ribbing. All charts have written instructions available and each chart is separate for each size. Additionally, all charts for the chosen size are on two pages so you don't have to jump in between pages.
