Penny the Purrmaid

**This pattern is free for sign ups to my newsletter - scroll down to the bottom for the link** Sometimes all it takes is a doodle to spark a whole new idea, and that’s exactly how Penny the Purrmaid came to be. I was stuck on hold with a telephone company for what felt like an eternity, so I grabbed my notepad and started doodling to pass the time. What came out was a page full of weird and wonderful little sketches, and hiding among them was Penny, just waiting to be turned into a knitted toy. I think she turned out really cute, and of course, a face as sweet as hers needed a little flower to finish her off. **Yarn:** Stylecraft Special DK 100% acrylic 30g Mocha (Dark Brown) 35g Spearmint (Light Blue) 15g Candyfloss (Pink) A small amount of black yarn for the eyes. **Needles:** 3.5mm Straight needles **Other supplies:** Toy stuffing Tapestry Needle **Size:** 36 cm **Gauge:** Generally, gauge for knitted toys is not important, however, if you are substituting the yarn for this pattern, use knitting needles 2 sizes smaller than recommended on the yarn band to prevent the stuffing from showing through the stitches. **Abbreviations:** [ ] x times: Knit the instructions between the brackets x amount of times. * ; : rep from * to end: Repeat the instructions between the * and ; until the end of the row. st(s): stitch(es) K: knit, if followed by a number, knit that amount of stitches P: purl St st: stocking stitch: alternate a row of knitting and a row of purling. G st: garter stitch: knit every row K2tog: knit two stitches together knitwise. P2tog: purl two stitches together purlwise. Kfb: knit in the front and back of the stitch, creating an increase. Pfb: Purl in the front and back of the stitch, creating an increase. YO: Yarn over Ssk: Slip the next 2 sts on the LH onto the RH needle without knitting in. Insert the LH needle into the 2 slipped sts and knit them together. Sl1: slip the next stitch from the left hand needle to the right hand needle without working it. PSSO: pass the slipped stitch over the previously worked stitch.
