Late Bloomer Cardigan

PATTERN IS IN TEST KNITTING Will be available in autumn 2026 The Late Bloomer cardigan is knitted from the top down, in the round. The neck rib is knitted back and forward, then stitches are added for the steek and the work is joined in the round. The yoke is knitted with colourwork following a chart, and once that is done, shortrows are knitted to improve the fit. The body is separated from the sleeves under the arms. The body can be knitted straight down or with an adjustment (narrower or wider) around the waist, and ends with a ribbed hem. The sleeves are knitted with many decreases, following the natural shape of the arm, and end in a ribbed cuff. Button edges are picked up and knitted on both sides of the steek, before the steek is cut open and fastened and the buttons sewn in. SIZES: Pattern includes 14 sizes from XS to 5XL Finished bust measurement after separation of yoke: 85 (90, 95, 100, 105) 110, 115, 120, 125 [130, 135, 140, 145, 150] cm/33 ½ (35½, 37½, 39⅓, 41⅓) 43⅓, 45¼, 47¼, 49¼ [51¼, 53⅛, 55⅛, 57, 59] inches. Length of body: About 50 cm 19⅔ inches Length of arms: About 45 cm/17⁷⁄₁₀ inches The sweater is designed with approximately 5 cm (2”) of positive ease at the bust and 2 cm (0.8”) of positive ease at the upper arm. SKILL LEVEL: Advanced Beginner/Intermediate This pattern is suitable for knitters who have some experience with knitting stranded colourwork and fitting garments. TECHNIQUES USED: * Stranded colourwork following a chart * Shaping using increases and decreases * German Short Rows * Picking up stitches and knitting button bands/holes * Reinforcing and cutting the steek * Magic loop or DPN for the sleeves * Elastic and regular bind off GAUGE: 28 st/36 rows = 10 x 10 cm/4 x 4 inches YARN: Fingering weight yarn that knits to the gauge.
