MOONSHIMMER Use coupon SHIMMER50 for 50 % off - applies to first 50 copies Introduction Moonshimmer was born during a winter of deep snow and quiet evenings. As the design unfolded, the diamond motifs began to resemble moonlight shimmering across still water. A reminder that even the softest light can bring beauty to the darkest nights. Featuring striking inset mosaic crochet and a mirrored diamond design, Moonshimmer is a contemporary triangular shawl that blends geometric elegance with everyday versatility. Its compact shape makes it intuitive to wear, wrapping comfortably around the neck with minimal fuss. Perfect for adding texture and visual interest to even the simplest outfit. Scroll to the bottom if you're curious about how this design was born.... Construction This triangular shawl is worked sideways, beginning at one tip and finishing at the opposite tip. It starts with one st at row 1 and ends with one st at row 116. Designed to be worn as a scarf, the shape is created by increasing to the widest point and then decreasing back to a single stitch. All shaping is worked at the same edge allowing the mosaic pattern to remain consistent throughout the pattern. Pattern instructions (US terms): Fully charted (116 rows (a+b)) Partly written: first 51 rows + middle and end rows Video tutorial stitch by stitch of first 10 rows along with chart Practice video, understanding the shawl increases and yarn changes Technique Mosaic Inset Crochet Skill Level Intermediate This pattern is suited for the experienced crocheter, looking to try something different. Previous experience with the technique is helpful. All my talented testers managed to complete this shawl with little to no previous experience, but individual learning curves naturally vary as with any new technique. About mosaic Inset crochet: this tecnique uses only a few basic stitches. The pattern is achieved by working double crochets in front of chain spaces into skipped sts of same color 3 rows below. Yarn is not cut between rows, but simply carried along the side. Stitches used: Chains, single crochets and double crochets. Chart The chart is a standard mosaic crochet chart. X's mark mosaicdoublecrochets. The written pattern is divided into clear sections and is easy to read and follow. Materials Hook: 5 mm (US H–8) or any hook to obtain gauge. Yarn: Worsted or Aran weight yarn. I used Friends 8/8 cotton yarn. Yardage • Color A (MC): approx. 265 m / 290 yd • Color B (CC): approx. 265 m / 290 yd Total: approx. 530 m / 580 yd Yardage is approximate and may vary depending on tension and final size. Finished Size (unblocked) Approx. 156 × 43 cm (approx. 61.5 × 17 in). Gauge: based on the 1st 10 rows of the pattern. Questions: you are welcome to ask if you have any questions about the pattern. The result is my very first inset mosaic crochet design. It all started with a simple repeat, but as the chart evolved, I felt inspired to introduce a mirrored center, adding balance and creating a more dynamic flow. This was a fun process for me. Usually I always work intuitively first and plan later. This time I got to switch it up and work my first sample directly from the charts, mostly trying to figure out how i could bring the stitch pattern to the very tip of each side.
