There is no plain sole, no plain leg, no isolated panel. The pattern carries from the ribbing through to the toe decreases as one continuous surface, which is what gives the sock its density and its weight in the hand. Worked cuff-down in the round from a chart, in two colours throughout. Two heel constructions are given in full: a German short-row heel, and an afterthought heel for anyone who would rather keep the main colour completely clean of floats. The pattern is explicit about the trade-off between them and walks through both stitch by stitch. Shown at ankle length in black and blood orange, but the leg is worked to whatever length you like — the chart repeats vertically, and the instructions tell you where to break for the heel so the motif stays aligned.
