Biscuit

Inspiration for this design by Camille Romano was found in traditional butter biscuits from Normandy, France — simple in composition yet defined by their delicate scalloped edges. This idea evolved into a short-sleeved cardigan featuring a scalloped collar, shaped by a quiet, cosy moment that lingered in the mind. The concept came together with a skein of Purl Soho’s Hedgerow, a nubby tweed yarn spun in County Donegal, Ireland, whose rich brown shade and subtle speckles add depth and character. Worked in stockinette stitch, the fabric allows the beauty of the yarn to take centre stage, while the yarn itself brings texture to the design. MATERIALS **Yarn:** 4 (4, 5, 5, 5) (6, 6, 6, 7) skeins of Hedgerow by Purl Soho (93% Merino wool, 3.5% cashmere, 3.5% Mulberry silk, 243 yds / 222 m – 100 g), in the colourway Cattail Brown. Or approx. the following amount of DK-weight woollen-spun yarn: 805 (875, 975, 1050, 1135) (1240, 1350, 1445, 1545) yds / 735 (800, 890, 960, 1035) (1135, 1235, 1320, 1410) m. Alternative woollen-spun yarn suggestions are for example Bauma by Xolla or Donegal Wool Spinning Company Yarn by Studio Donegal. **Needles:** US 5 / 3.75 mm 32–48" / 80–120 cm circular needles (for the body) and US 3 / 3.25 mm 32–48" / 80–120 cm circular needles (for the ribbing and collar). **Notions:** Removable stitch markers, stitch holder or contrasting waste yarn, 5 buttons or toggles of 0.5" / 1.5 cm in diameter. GAUGE 20 sts x 23.5 rnds and rows to 4" / 10 cm on US 5 / 3.75 mm needles in St St, after blocking. NOTES *Biscuit* is knitted top-down, starting at the back neck. The shoulders are formed with the European shoulder construction. The sleeves are picked up at the armhole and worked to ¾ length with minimal decreases. The folded collar is worked in Stockinette Stitch with a picot detail and then folded and sewn to the neckline. The pockets are knitted separately and seamed to the front at the end. The buttons give a possibility for customisation by either bringing contrast or balance to the piece. The design has a boxy and cropped fit.
