Eloria Cardigan

Eloria is a timeless saddle-shoulder cardigan featuring a relaxed fit and thoughtfully placed cable details. The design highlights a striking quail cable motif that flows seamlessly from the shoulder saddles along the V-neckline and down both fronts, creating an elegant vertical line. Additional zigzag cables run along the sides of the body on both the front and back, framed by faux side seams that create a tailored look. The spaces between the cables are worked in a subtle purl ridge texture, adding quiet structure and depth without overwhelming the design. The cable motif continues across the saddles and along the sleeves, creating a cohesive look throughout the garment. The sleeves feature the same textured pattern, with faux seam stitches along the underside and reverse stockinette decreasess for a clean, refined finish. Classic 2×2 ribbing at the hem and cuffs adds balance, while the double-knit button band provides a polished and durable edge. **CONSTRUCTION** Eloria is worked seamlessly from the top down using a classic saddle-shoulder construction. The cardigan begins with the shoulder saddles. Stitches are then picked up for the upper back, and additional stitches are cast on for the back neckline. Short rows shape the shoulders and neckline, followed by increases to form the armholes. The fronts are worked back and forth from stitches picked up along the saddles. Shoulder shaping is completed with short rows, while increases shape both the V-neckline and underarm. Once the armhole shaping is complete, the fronts and back are joined and the body is worked back and forth to the hem. After the body is complete, stitches are picked up to work the double-knit button band. The sleeves are worked in the round using the held saddle stitches, with additional stitches picked up around the armholes. Sleeve caps are shaped with short rows, and the sleeves are gently tapered toward the cuffs. Most of the pattern is presented in chart form, with some sections explained using written instructions only. The pattern was tech-edited by Marie-Eve Wedge and test knitted by a wonderful group of knitters. Sizes 6, 7 and 8 have not been test knitted. The samples are shown in size 2 with 15 cm / 6" positive ease at the full bust. **To fit bust:** 76-81 (86-91; 95-100; 106-111) (116-121; 127-132; 135-140; 147-152) cm / 30.5-32.5 (34.5-36.5; 38-40; 42.5-44.5) (46.5-48.5; 50.75-52.75; 54-56; 58.75-60.75) inches. **Finished bust circumference:** 96 (106; 115; 126) (136; 147; 155; 167) cm / 38.5 (42.5; 46; 50.5) (54.5; 58.75; 62; 66.75) inches. **Armhole depth:** 20 (20.5; 22; 23) (23.5; 24; 25; 26) cm / 8 (8.25; 8.75; 9.25) (9.5; 9.5; 10; 10.5) inches. **Body length from underarm to hem:** 29.5 (30; 28.5; 29.5) (29; 28; 29.5; 28.5) cm / 11.75 (12; 11.5; 11.75) (11.5; 11.25; 11.75; 11.5) inches. **Upper sleeve circumference:** 36 (39; 43; 45) (47; 50; 54; 58) cm / 14.5 (15.5; 17.25; 18) (18.75; 20; 21.5; 23.25) inches. **GAUGE** 20 stitches and 33 rows = 10 cm x 10 cm / 4" x 4" in purl ridge textured pattern worked flat and in the round, after blocking, using 4 mm / US 6 needles. **YARN** The Eloria Cardigan is designed to be worked at DK weight gauge. This can be achieved using a single strand of DK weight yarn or two strands of fingering weight yarn held together. For my petrol blue sample, I used CaMaRose Økologisk Hverdagsuld (100% organic wool; 50 g = 150 m / 164 yards), in the 30 - Mork Petrol shade. For my light beige sample, I used Knitting for Olive Cotton Merino (70 % organic cotton, 30% extrafine merino; 50 g = 250 m / 273 yards), in the Wheat shade, **held double**. You will need approximately: 1005 (1085; 1140; 1240) (1290; 1360; 1470; 1550) m / 1100 (1185; 1245; 1355) (1410; 1485; 1610; 1695) yards of DK weight yarn, if using a single strand. If working with fingering weight yarn held double, double the meterage and yardage listed above. **NEEDLES AND NOTIONS** * 4 mm / US 6 circular needles for the main fabric; 40 cm / 16" for the sleeves, and 80 or 100 cm / 32" or 40" for the body. Or needle size needed to reach gauge. * 3.5 mm / US 4 circular needles of 80 cm / 32" for the ribbing. Or needles 0.5 mm smaller than the main needles. * 3 mm / US 2.5 circular needles of 100 cm / 40" for the double-knit button band.
