**West of Avonlea Cardigan** By Sarah Bessey *Inspired by a beautiful red, grey, and purple striped cardigan sweater worn in the 1987 CBC miniseries Anne of Green Gables, this is an aran-weight, oversized, simple cardigan with raglan sleeves, a wide v-neck collar, wide ribbing, and top-down construction.* **You will need** Aran-weight yarn - approximately 360 metres in each of the three main striping colours (1080 metres total) plus 100 metres in a fourth colour if you decide to do the colourwork. See note below regarding yarn recommendation and striping. 5.5 mm circular needles 5.5 mm double pointed needles Scrap yarn Stitch markers Darning needle for weaving in ends **Sizes** XS (S, M, L, XL, XXL) (sweater shown is a size L) Bust width after blocking is approximately 41 cm (44 cm, 47 cm, 50 cm, 53 cm, 56 cm) but can be adjusted according to your need. **A Note on Yarn Choice** I used Haynes Creek Heathers by Alberta-based Gathering Yarn but any aran or worsted weight that meets your gauge would be fine. Stripes pictured are Haynes Creek Heathers in Stone - 107 (grey), Thistle - 141 (purple), Ruby - 178 (red), and accented with Ecru - 100 (white). For the pictured cardigan, two skeins of each striping colour (180 metres per skein) and just one of the accented colour were needed.
