Bramley Cardigan

When Carolyn Fletcher, the dyer behind Wolf Hollow Wool, challenged me to design a garment with two of her half-pound skeins, I immediately envisioned a brioche cardigan. Bramley, named for an upstate New York mountain near where Carolyn grew up, makes the most of the knit stitch’s super squishy texture. *Bramley Cardigan is worked flat for the body and in the round for the sleeves.* **Sizes:** 1 (2, 3, 4)(5, 6, 7) **Finished Bust Measurement:** 36 ½ (41, 45, 48 ¾)(53, 57 ¼, 61) in/91 (102.5, 112.5, 122)(132.5, 143, 152.5) cm, measured with center fronts touching. **Ease:** Meant to be worn with -2 to +2 in/-5 to +5 cm of ease. Sample is knit in size 2 and worn by model with 39 in bust and 2 in/5 cm of positive ease. **Yarn:** Worsted to Aran Weight Main Color (MC): 525(550, 650, 725)(800, 888, 962) yds/480 (503, 594, 663)(731.5, 812, 880) m; [210 (220, 260, 290)(320, 355, 385) g] Contrast Color (CC): 473 (506, 605, 660)(726, 814, 880) yds /432.5 (462.5, 553, 603.5)(664, 744, 804.5) m; [215 (230, 275, 300)(330, 370, 400) g] **Sample Uses:** MC: Wolf Hollow Wool Woodchuck Worsted (100% Organic Merino Wool; 560 yds [512 m]/227 g), 1 (1, 2, 2)(2, 2, 2) skeins Burdock CC: Wolf Hollow Wool Bobcat Bulky (50% Alpaca, 50% merino wool; 500 yds [457 m]/227 g) 1 (1, 2, 2)(2, 2, 2) skeins Papaya *Designer Note: Although the name of the CC implies a bulky yarn, it knits up like an aran weight.* **Needles:** US size 7/4.50 mm needles (or size needed to obtain gauge); 40 in/100 cm circular & preferred needles for small circumference knitting **Other:** 2 stitch markers, 3 stitch holders, spare needle for stretchy three-needle bind off, tapestry needle **Gauge:** 15 st x 18 rows = 4 in/10 cm blocked in two-color brioche rib **Skills included in this pattern:** -Tubular cast on -Knitting -Purling -Slipped stitches -Brioche knitting -Brioche purling -Brioche decreases -Stretchy three-needle bind off -Italian tubular bind off Questions?
