Petal Path is a light and airy shawl inspired by rows of delicate white petals. This pattern is an updated version of my older [Lavender Path][1] shawl and now includes two edging options:
- the original lace edging
- and a simple plain edging for a more casual look.
The pattern also includes instructions for working the same stitch pattern in a rectangular form, which can be made into a scarf, stole, blanket, or a swatch to practice the technique.
**TECHNIQUE**
Lover's Knot in traditional crochet is typically treated as a standalone element used to create floating lace mesh or worked decoratively in small sections.
In my designs, I incorporate it into the crocheted fabric itself and treat it as a replacement for chain spaces.
This changes the look of the fabric and creates a gentler, more filled-in appearance, as the elongated strands of the Lover's Knots visually soften empty areas and feel much airier and more delicate than simple chains.
This technique is also used in the following designs: [Thistle Field shawl][2], [Lavender Path shawl][3], [Floral Bubbles shawl][4], [Sun Powder top][5], and [Honey Weather scarf][6].
★ The pattern is written out and charted, with a photo tutorial on stitches and swatch instructions
★ Language: English (US crochet terms)
★ Pages: 10
**MATERIALS**
- Yarn: Malabrigo Mechita; fingering weight; 420 yd (384 m) per 100 g skein; 100% Superwash Merino Wool, 2 skeins in Natural colorway
- Hook: US E-4 (3.5 mm)
- Tapestry needle
**FINISHED MEASUREMENTS**
- 64½" (164 cm) wingspan, 28¾" (73 cm) height at center
You can adjust the size of your shawl by simply working fewer or more row repeats of the stitch pattern.
*I create new crochet stitches to show a quieter, softer side of crochet: calm, simple, and casual. My patterns may look unusual at first only because the technique is new to you, just like your first chain or single crochet once was. After a little practice, it feels easy and natural.*
