Needlecase cowl

This stranded colorwork cowl is knit in the round as a tube, beginning with a provisional cast-on. The first and last rounds are grafted together using Kitchener stitch for a seamless finish. The cowl can be worn straight or with a half twist for a Möbius-style loop. The black and white motif with a red stripe is inspired by the iconic ChiaoGoo needle case, perfect for showcasing your favorite knitting tools! Yarn Yarn (fingering weight, 3 colors): MC (Main Color – black): 383 yd/350 m CC1 (Contrast Color 1 – white): 230 yd/210 m CC2 (Contrast Color 2 – red): 32 yd/30 m Sample used: Drops Flora 06 Black (MC), 2 balls Drops Flora 01 Off White (CC1), 1 ball Drops Alpaca 3650 Maroon (CC2), 1 ball Gauge 32 sts and 30 rows = 4 in/10 cm in colorwork pattern in the round, after blocking. Needles Size US 1.5/2.5 mm circular knitting needles (16”/40 cm circumference or smaller). Notions Waste yarn and crochet hook for the provisional cast on; stitch marker; tapestry needle; a second circular knitting needle to hold the stitches for grafting. Colorwork Notes o Work charts from right to left and from bottom to top. o One round = 2 repeats of Chart A. This pattern is worked in two-color stranded colorwork and includes several long floats in CC1 that require catching. It is recommended to catch floats approximately every 7 stitches. For a cleaner result, I recommend ladderback jacquard in larger sections of MC. In other areas where CC1 is more prominent, strands can be managed by twisting MC and CC1 using standard stranded colorwork techniques.
