Rooted in the principles of slow fashion, the Between Tides Shawl is a triangular shawl designed to be enjoyed as much in the making as in the wearing. Starting at the centre and growing outward, it journeys through three tactile stitch patterns—moss, clusters, and waffle—each bringing its own quiet rhythm and texture. Worked in merino 4ply, it’s a timeless piece created for mindful hands and lasting wardrobes. A delicate beaded fringe, featuring a mix of seed beads and magatamas, adds gentle weight and soft movement to the finished edge, completing the shawl with a subtle, flowing detail. Designed for intermediate crocheters, the pattern includes a chart to help clarify stitch placement where needed. A bonus variation is also included at the end of the pattern, adapting the design into a cosy cowl worked in DK yarn. Pattern is written in English and uses UK terms. Between Tides Shawl - Materials Yarn: Walnut Tree Yarn Pure Merino Prints, 4ply, (100% organic merino superwash wool), 50g/200m 8 x Blue Green (006) Hook: 3.5mm Stitch markers For the beaded fringe: beading needle, nymo beading thread (or similar), seed beads in sizes 6 and 11, 4mm magatamas Between Tides Shawl - Dimensions Finished size after blocking is 80 inches at widest point by 40 inches deep Gauge: not critical, but as a guide 30 rows and 32 sts to 4 inches over pattern - unblocked Between Tides Shawl - Abbreviations (UK Terms) Ch - chain Dc - double crochet Htr - half treble crochet Sp - space, eg ch3-sp st(s) - stitch(es) Tr - treble crochet Yo - yarn over RS- right side WS - wrong side Special stitch Htrcl - Half treble cluster. 2htr into the same stitch as follows: (yo, insert hook, pull up loop) x2, yo and pull through all 5 loops Between Tides Shawl - Pattern Notes The shawl is worked flat, turning at the end of every row. Instructions in brackets are worked the number of times specified, eg x2. Chains do not count as a stitch unless specified. Use a stitch marker to keep track of the centre stitch for each row, moving it up as necessary. Increases occur in the first and last stitch of every row, and at the centre stitch on every row. The shawl is similar on both sides - there is no obvious Right/Wrong side. I have provided a chart to help clarify stitch placement where necessary.
