Knit using a combination of two-color syncopated brioche and intarsia inlays to create graphic color changes. *“The death of truth is the ultimate victory of evil.”* Mon Mothma was the ONLY choice for my 2026 Star Wars shawl. I was most inspired by her portrayal in the Star Wars television series, Andor. Not only was she one of the founding members of the Rebel Alliance, she actually funded most of it from her own personal bank account. All of this was accomplished while also representing her homeworld of Chandrila in the Imperial Senate. The colors of this shawl were inspired by her wardrobe. “Sagrona” is the traditional Chandrilan toast, often followed by “Sagrona Teema”. **Yarn Notes:** I chose semi-solid yarns for my sample to reflect the color inspiration and elegance of Mon Mothma and her wardrobe. You can certainly choose speckled or variegated yarns for your sample, brioche is a fantastic way to showcase these yarns! Grab 4 skeins total, 2 skeins for your Main Color, and 1 each for your Contrast Colors. I recommend choosing yarns that are high in contrast between your MC & CC yarns for the best outcome. **Skill Level:** Intermediate - Advanced. I highly recommend having previous brioche knitting experience before making this shawl. **Techniques Used:** Twisted German Cast On, knit, purl, brioche knit (brk), brioche purl (brp), sl1yo, syncopated two-color brioche, intarsia, brioche increases, i-cord bind off, elastic bind off **Video Tutorials:** *Twisted German Cast On:* http://bit.ly/TwistedGermanCO *Brioche Intarsia:* https://bit.ly/BriocheIntarsia *I-Cord Bind Off:* https://bit.ly/icordbrioche *Elastic Bind Off:* http://bit.ly/ElasticBO **Construction Notes:** **Main Color and Contrast Colors:** You willl have 2 different color palettes going on in your shawl! As you’re looking at your shawl on the Main Side while knitting it, your Contrast Color 1 will be on the right-hand edge, and your Contrast Color 2 will be on the left-hand edge. **How this shape is constructed:** This shawl is knit from the top down, with 16 stitches increased every 4 rows. This is how the extreme crescent shape is formed, somewhat representative of the Rebel Alliance crest. Each section of increases is divided using syncopated two-color brioche, meaning you will switch what you are doing with your yarns. At the center of your shawl, you will be switching your Contrast Colors to create a beautiful color blocking. Because of the syncopated two-color brioche, this shawl is completely reversible! This shawl is so easy to wear, either draped aross your shoulders or wrapped around your neck. The extreme wingspan makes it difficult to fall off your shoulders, almost creating a brioche hug. **» One Size:** 70" / 178 cm wingspan and 24" / 61 cm deep at center, measured after blocking. Diagram & Schematic included in pattern. **» Gauge:** 20 sts and 26 rows = 4" / 10 cm (measured in even two-color brioche rib stitch knit flat, taken after blocking) ***MATERIALS:*** **» Yarn:** Fingering / sock weight **Main Color (MC):** 775 yds / 709 m **Contrast Color 1 (CC1):** 369 yds / 337 m **Contrast Color 2 (CC2):** 374 yds / 342 m **» Shown in:** Malabrigo Mechita (100% Merino wool; 420 yds / 384 m per 100 g) **MC:** 2 skeins in Natural (*creamy white*) **CC1:** 1 skein in Caramel (*rusty brown*) **CC2:** 1 skein in Teal Feather (*teal*) **» Needles:** 40" / 101.5 cm or longer US 3 / 3.25 mm circular needles Circular needles are used to accommodate a large number of stitches and for two-color brioche knitting. Adjust needle size as needed to obtain proper gauge. **» Tools:** Tapestry needle for weaving in ends, row counter or preferred method for keeping track of pattern, stitch markers (in 3 different colors, if possible), optional locking stitch marker for noting Main Side of work **» Credits:** Thank you to my tech editor Chaitanya Muralidhara (@beginswithac) for all her help in editing my pattern!!
